Title WokTheWob: FOIA for open source
Type Video
Tags law privacy
Abstract Many countries have a Freedom of Information Act. People can request transparency from their government in theory. But in practice bureaucrats are going out of their way to prevent 'open' from happening until they meet you. Based on experiences of an ethousiastic wobber you can learn how wobbing works in the Netherlands, what resistance you can expect and how you crack open those archives you already pay for. During the workshop you hear about the experiences of more than 600 FOIA-requests, what you can do wrong and how the Dutch Administrative Courts work. After that you will be somewhat aware. So we run through to the process of writing a request yourself, how to run through process, what execuses you hear and how to defeat them. It doesn't matter if it is just your need to know, the sense of activism or your profession: in this workshop you get to basic tools to become more efficient in requesting information from the government. The session will be full of examples, practical tips, legal advice (with disclaimers) and real life facts.
